Scotties retake Eagles to win 69-63
The Philip High School Scotties boys began their basketball season with a home game against the Wall Eagles, Friday, December 10.
The 2010-2011 season began with a Scottie win when Philip defeated Wall 69-63.

A minute and a half of play saw a 6-0 score in favor of Philip. Then Wall sank a foul shot to get on the scoreboard. Throughout the quarter the lead stayed with Philip. Even with two minutes remaining the score was 14-8. Then, in the last minute of the quarter, the Eagles closed the gap to just a one point difference.
The second quarter began with a Philip-caused foul, where the Scotties lost their lead and the score was tied 14-14. Repeatedly, the Scotties enjoyed up to a five point lead, only to have their opponents reclose the gap to within a basket. At the 1:30 remaining mark, Wall sank a three-pointer to gain the advantage with a 29-30 score. Seconds before halftime, Philip sank two foul shots to climb back into the lead 31-30.
The third quarter put a shadow over the Scotties' playing, with the Eagles quickly grabbing the lead and determinedly increasing it. Philip's third quarter score was almost doubled by Wall. The quarter ended 43-53
Philip staged an aggressive comeback. From 10 points down, the Scotties slowly gained, until, with four minutes remaining in the game, the score was 58-59. Less than three minutes remained and the lead flip-flopped to 60-59. Wall immediately sank a field goal to claim the lead once again. An Eagle foul against the Scotties allowed Philip to be in the lead again. The last minute of the game was a show of Scottie nerves and concentration as Wall could not hit the basket while Philip could. Philip took advantage of foul shots as the Scotties pulled even further ahead to win 69-63.

The Philip boys' junior varsity did not fare as well. Though the Scotties had the lead in the first quarter and held it through the third quarter, the last eight minutes of play saw a turn around that cost Philip the game. The Philip JV game ended 29-38.

The "C" game ended with a 21-30 win for Wall.
The next game for the Philip Scotties will be a boys' and girls' double-header starting at 2:30 p.m. in Philip versus the Stanley County Buffalos, Thursday, December 16. The following game will, again, be a boys' and girls' double-header starting at 2:30 a.m. in Philip versus the Moguls, Saturday, December 18. The following game will be a double-header in Kadoka against the Kadoka Area Kougars, starting at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 20.
