Robert "Bob" Linn

Robert James Linn passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on the morning of November 27, 2021, at the age of seventy.
Robert, better known as Bob was born on November 2, 1951, in Dupree, SD, to his parents Leonard and Violet Linn. He grew up on the family ranch near Dupree and enjoyed many boyhood adventures with his three brothers: Ron, Marvin, and Gary, as well as his cousins and friends when they visited. On the ranch, he learned the value of family, neighbors, small town life, caring for God’s creatures and hard work. He loved to talk about memories of eating his mom’s wonderful cooking and appreciated how hard she worked to keep four growing boys fed!
Bob carried these values and ethics into his 38+ years as a construction worker and cement contractor. There is evidence of his skills in areas of Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, and locations scattered across South Dakota. He especially enjoyed completing cement jobs for neighbors, friends, and family.
Bob married his wife, Vicki, the love of his life, on June 10, 2007. The couple lived initially in Newell while Bob continued his cement business located in Faith, SD. In July 2014, they moved to Whitewood, SD. Together they enjoyed a simple life at home and transitioned to retirement. Vicki called Bob their tour guide as they traveled and explored Alaska and areas of Europe. Bob was a wonderful husband, and friend, to Vicki who will miss him dearly!
Bob enjoyed being busy crafting things from wood, running “in his younger years,” cross country skiing, hiking, fishing, classical music, writing poems, reading, cooking, studying history, gardening, and anything that got him outdoors to enjoy nature. Bob was a gentle soul who found peace by reading his bible. He was very enthusiastic about the Lord, and prayed throughout each day for any and everyone. Bob was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand or be a listening ear to anyone who crossed his path.
Many people are grateful for having shared Bob’s life including his wife, Vicki; her two children, Krista Pickett, and Brian Byrne; and his grandson, Taevyn Pickett, with whom he shared a very special bond. He enjoyed camping trips, hiking, and holidays with his brothers, Marvin (Debbie) Linn, Gary Linn; and former sister-in-law, Kandace MacKaben; Ron (Amy) Linn; and his nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Violet Linn; an infant brother; and uncle, Ray Linn who he spent many hours with as a growing boy on the family ranch.
Bob’s calm demeanor, warm smile, spiritual strength, and prayers will be missed by so many.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. today Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD. Masks will be required due to some family members’ fragile health.
A celebration of life hike will be held at a later date.
A memorial gift will be established for the Pathways Spiritual Sanctuary, one of his favorite places in the Black Hills. Cards and memorial gifts may be sent to Kinkade Funeral Chapel, c/o Robert Linn, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis, South Dakota 57785.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.kinkadefunerals .com
